Donald Abrams, 83, of Mount Eden, died on Thursday, the 10th day of June, 2021, at his residence. Born in Spencer County, he was the son of the late Edgar Thomas and Mazie Goodwin Abrams, and the widower of Joyce Laverne Murphy Abrams. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Bonnie Jean Abrams. He was a member of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon for over fifty years and formerly taught Sunday School. A retired thirty-year employee of Armour Foods in Louisville, he later worked for the Kentucky Department of Transportation for over fifteen years. A member and past president of the Mount Eden Ruritan Club, his memberships also included the Mount Eden Lodge No. 263 of Free and Accepted Masons, and the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 227. Camping, fishing, and boating were among his favorite leisure activities. As part of his ministry both with his church and independently, he will be well-remembered as a frequent visitor to residents in area nursing homes and to patients in the hospitals. When it came to sports, he was definitely a fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats.
His survivors include his son, Donald "Tim" Abrams and his wife, Jan, of Eminence; his daughter, Becky Abrams Ingram and her husband, Jerome, of Mount Eden; his grandchildren, Shelby Abrams Fulkerson and her husband, Connor, and Sydney Abrams Hahn and her husband, Carter, all of Lexington, and Spencer A. Ingram and Emily C. Ingram, both of Mount Eden; several nieces and nephews, including one whom he considered to be his third child, Glen Klayer and his wife, Rhonda, of Southville; and his special friend and companion, Ruth Shields of Mount Eden.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, the 12th day of June, 2021, at the Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Mount Eden, with the Reverend Tom Conway officiating. Interment will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
