Ramona June Conrad Painter was born June 13, 1938 in Ainsworth, NE to Laurence and Roma Uvern (Gipson) Conrad. Ramona was the eldest of three daughters to the Conrad family.

Ramona at the age of 82 was diagnosed with liver cancer, and passed away peacefully at her home with three of her children and loving sister by her side on August 29, 2020 at the age of 82 years 2 months, 16 days.

Her first home was in Springview where her father provided the Rawleigh service for the area; later they made their home on the family farm on the Niobrara River in Brown County. In 1944 Ramona’s father was drafted into the Navy, the family, including the new addition of a baby sister, Linda, resided on the Conrad family farm. In 1950 Ramona and Linda gained another sister Janet Ann.

Ramona attended her grade school years at a county School District #26 on the river and later attended her first 3 years of high school in Long Pine. In 1955 the family moved to Hillsboro Oregon where she went from a class of 15 in Long Pine High School to a class of 218 at Hillsboro Union High School. There she graduated in the spring of 1956.

In the summer of 1956 the family once again returned back to the family farm on the beautiful Niobrara River.

On December 20, 1956 Ramona was united in marriage to Dale Edward Painter in Winner, SD. To this union Anthony Dale, Tami Jo, Tim Conrad, and Terrill Lavern were born. Ramona and Dale made their loving homes throughout their married life in Keya Paha, Rock, Brown, Cherry and Antelope Counties.

Ramona was employed at the Brown County Hospital for a number of years, and in 1987 began her position as a dispatcher/jailor at the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, and retired March 2020. Ramona took pride and enjoyment in every job position that she held.

After Dale’s passing in June 2017, Ramona and her cat Bella purchased their loving home in Ainsworth that she was so proud of and resided upon until her passing.

If Ramona had one little moment of boredom to sneak into her daily hour, there was always her critters including birds, bunnies, and squirrels at their feeders in her backyard paradise, which kept her “bossy” white and yellow cat, Bella and herself entertained. Ramona had a witty nature about herself, always filled with laughter and always ready to share her centennial and family history. She took pride and spent many hours in precise writing many chapters of family history. Family was of importance to her and time spent with her children and grandchildren gave her much joy.

Another importance in her life was her close walk of faith, and belief in her Lord Jesus. She spent many hours and much love ministering to the children of her church and community. A yearly calendar was always her first priority at the beginning of the year. She entered birthday dates so a card was never missed in sending to all her family she loved so dearly.

She will be met at the gates of heaven by her parents, a loving sister Linda, her loving husband Dale, grandparents Clarence and Ellen (Blakely) Gipson and Frank and Caddie (Dodge) Conrad, and grandson JJ Brandon Painter, and great grandson Byron O’Rourke.

Ramona is survived by her loving children Tony Painter and wife Darlene of Gothenburg, NE, Tami Gum and husband Lynn of Long Pine, NE, Tim Painter and wife Dee of Valentine, NE, and Terrill Painter and companion Rachel Rabe of Hoskins, NE; 13 Grandchildren and numerous Great Grandchildren; sister Janet Huggins and husband Ken of Ainsworth; nieces and nephews, and Bella her cat of love, laughter, and enjoyment.
