He was born in the village of Clyde, N. Y., and at the age of 18 years moved to Swain, where he engaged in the lumber business. About 26 years ago he moved to this section and he and his brother ran a saw mill on Col. Bill's creek for years. A few years ago he moved to Canisteo and since that time has made his home here.
He is survived by his wife and three sons, Miles Bowles of Bennetts Creek, James Bowles of Howard and Archie Bowles of Hornell; two daughters, Mrs. John Knight and Mrs. Floyd G. Cross of this village.
The funeral was held at the late home in Greenwood street yesterday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock and burial in Hillside Cemetery. Rev. C. H. Gall of the Methodist church officiated." The Times, Canisteo, Steuben County, N. Y., December 29, 1915
