Grady was the only child of Lucinda Agnes Wilson and her first husband, Largus Simon Marrow, who died in 1893 when Grady was only two. Agnes later (after 1897) remarried Joseph Marshall Huey, the widowed husband of Agnes' sister, Martha Catherine Wilson, who died in 1897. That second marriage gave Grady 8 step-siblings who were also cousins (the children of JM and Martha Catherine); plus JM and Agnes produced two more sons, M. E. "Joe" Huey and Robert Mitchell Huey.
