A daughter of Lieut. Col. Nathaniel Pope and his wife Lucy[1], Ann Pope was the wife of Col. John Washington.[2] They were married on 01 Dec 1658, in Westmoreland, Virginia.

Together, John and Ann were great-grandparents of George Washington, the first President of the United States of America.

YEAR AND PLACE OF BIRTH
Various sources show Ann's year of birth in a range from c.1634 to 1638, and her place of birth as being either Westmoreland, Virginia or St. Mary's Parish, Maryland. Her grave slab confirms her place of birth to have been St. Mary's Parish, Maryland. Her year of birth used on this memorial, which does not appear on her grave slab, was sourced from the following two publications-

1) Frederick Adams Virkus F.I.A.G., Compendium of American Genealogy, Vol. 5.

2) Sir John Bernard Burke, Burke's American Families with British Ancestry.

YEAR AND PLACE OF DEATH
Ann died at Bridges Creek, Westmoreland, Virginia, in 1668/69.[3]

[1] Her given name appears as "Luce" in the will of her husband, Nathaniel. Lucy's maiden name is thought by some to have been Fox, though this has yet to be proven by historic records.
