Michael was 69. He had lived on Turnessa Drive. He was a professor at Providence College. He died unexpectedly at Miriam Hospital. He was the beloved husband for 44 years of Carol Ann (Clauer) Metallo.

Born in Paterson, NJ, he was the son of the late Michael and Carrie (De- Recco) Metallo. He lived in North Providence for 13 years previously living in East Providence.

Dr. Metallo was a graduate of Seton Hall University, Notre Dame University and received his Ph.D. from New York University. He was a professor of Asian History at Providence College and taught in the Western Civilization Program for 41 years.

Michael loved his family above all. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children: son, Michael Vincent Metallo, Jr., daughter-in-law, Natalie and grandson Nicholas, all of Huntersville, NC; daughter, Suzanne Lynn Rochman, son-in-law, Dr. Evan Rochman and stepchildren, Hannah and Zachary, all of Hamilton, MA; son, Steven Joseph Metallo, Ph.D., daughter-in-law Karen, grandson Tyler and granddaughter, Caroline, all of Silver Spring, MD; sister-in-law, Claire Metallo of Holmdel, NJ; nephew, Mark, niece, Lydia; sister-in-law, Peggy McAllister of St. Joseph, Michigan; and four nieces and nephews.
