Elizabeth “Liz” Rittenhouse, nee O’Donnell, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at the age of 86 with her children by her side.

Liz was born on March 9, 1934 and raised in Brooklyn, New York by her parents Charlie and Rose O’Donnell and alongside her twin brother John. Although not a fan of school, she graduated from St. Michael’s Catholic School and Bay Ridge High School. She enjoyed spending time in Sunset Park with her family growing up. Liz loved to dance and often spoke about going to The Rainbow in Sunset Park that was owned by her girlfriend Betty Ann’s family.

Liz’s husband Bill predeceased her in 2010, after 55 years of marriage.

Liz was a devoted mother to Kevin (Lois), Billy (Anne), Brian (Arlene) and Christine (Mike). Loving sister to her brother John O’Donnell (who predeceased her in 2018) and aunt to her nephews, Thomas and Robert. Cherished grandmother to Laura, Scott (Amy), Michael, Kim, Lisa, Michelle, Billy, Kelly Ann, Zoe, Michael, Erin and Mackenzie, as well as being “GG Liz” to Devon and Danica. Liz also leaves behind many beloved nephews, nieces and dear friends. Her beloved “ride or die” friend Dolores “Fitzie” Taylor predeceased her in 2017.

Liz, Bill and the family moved from Sunset Park in 1972 to Cortelyou Road where they lived for 23 years. During this time, Liz worked as a caretaker of a brownstone in Park Slope. Then the Towers of Bay Ridge become their next home, Liz then worked as a meal assembler for Meals on Wheels at the Bay Ridge Center. Shortly after Bill’s death, Liz moved on to Middletown, New York.

Liz loved watching her “soaps”, As the World Turns, Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful. She also loved Hallmark, Lifetime, Columbo and believe it or not enjoyed watching golf! She loved going to the movies and some of her favorites included Working Girl, Wall Street and The Perfect Murder. Clear to say that she had a crush on Michael Douglas.

Liz had a life well lived. She was a simple woman who loved her family and especially loved babysitting her grandchildren. Those that knew her best knew it did not take much to make her happy: Nathan’s hot dogs, bacon and ice cream were her all time absolute favorites! She loved Coney Island and going on long drives, especially through her old neighborhoods.

Her family wishes to thank everyone for their love and support during her journey, especially the angels at The Promenade.
