Tozer, Lowell Lowell Tozer was born on April 24, 1921 in Toledo, Ohio, and died on September 9, 2013 in El Cajon, California. He was 92 years old. During World War II, Lowell served in the Infantry in North Africa and Italy. Lowell was a Professor of English and Comparative Literature at San Diego State University for 35 years. Lowell joined The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in 1957. During the Vietnam War years, Lowell was active in counseling draft-age men, including conscientious objectors. Lowell took up distance running at age 57. He ran in 317 races, including 5Ks, 10Ks, and Half-Marathons. At the age of 72, Lowell began a volunteer career at the Neonatal ICU of the UC Medical Center in Hillcrest, where he helped care for premature newborns. Lowell is survived by brother Aiden Tozer and sister Rebecca Michaels; his offspring: Michael Tozer, Carol Tozer, Henry Tozer and Sarah Tozer, and their spouses; grandchildren Jake Tozer and Emily and Isabel Tozer, and 18 nieces and nephews. Lowell was preceded in death by four brothers, and by his former wife Jean Isabel Howland Tozer.
