Born Bertha Boettcher in September 1854. Married Victor Horony April 11, 1871 in Pottawattamie County, Iowa. The Boettcher and Horony families both lived in Davenport, Scott County, Iowa in the 1860s.

Daughter Clara V. was born 1873 and son Edward in 1875 both in Pottawattamie County, Iowa. Victor died March 20, 1879 (originally thought to be May 11, 1880). Bertha married George W. Arnold on September 30, 1881 in Avoca, Pottawattamie County, Iowa. George died on November 23, 1896. After George died, Bertha lived in Pottawattamie County before moving to Nebraska.

Bertha died in Omaha, Nebraska survived by her daughter, Clara.
