Mr. James W. Burns of Augusta, Georgia, 78, entered into rest Friday, November 27, 2009 at the VA Hospital - Uptown Division. Mr. Burns retired from the United States Air Force with more than 20 years of service. Mr. Burns was preceded in death by his parents Herman Gaynor and Ruth Galbreath Burns; his sons Jimmy and Michael Burns; and his brother Nathan D. Burns.

Survivors include his son, Darin Lance Burns (Karen) of Gilbert, AZ; his daughter Angela Burns of Augusta, GA.; grandson, Logan Burns of Gilbert, AZ; sisters, Alice (John) Ivey of Augusta, GA and Meagin (Mike) Hilbert of Martinez, GA; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

During his lifetime Mr. Burns was a Golden Gloves Champion and an avid boxing enthusiast.

A memorial service will be held 10 AM, Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Columbia Road Chapel, with his nephew Reverend Myron Ivey officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Charlie Norwood VA Hospital, 1 Freedom Way Augusta, GA 30904; American Heart Association, 1105-D Furys Lane, Augusta, GA 30907 or the American Cancer Society, 2607 Commons Blvd, Augusta, GA 30909.
