She attended Loretto High School until her senior year and then graduated from Loretto Abbey in Toronto, Canada. In her younger days Ginny developed a passionate love for figure skating and performed in various places across Michigan and then had the honor of becoming the first woman from the area to become a professional figure skater. She first joined Sonya Henie Hollywood Ice Review in the late 1930′s and then skated with Shipstad and Johnson Ice Follies touring the United States and Canada in the early 1940′s returning to the Soo in 1945. She remained involved in the skating community for many years.
Ginny had a real zest for life and in her lifetime lived in many places including Fort Lauderdale, Petoskey, Sevierville, TN and her favorite cities of Chicago and San Francisco. She had resided in the Soo for her final time since 2003.
Ginny was a past member of the Hospital Auxiliary, and past member of the Sault Country Club. Having coffee and conversation with friends and family was one of her favorite pastimes. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Parish.
Ginny is survived by two daughters, Cathy (Tom) Scozzafave of Brimley, Connie Deluga of Boca Raton, Fla. Two granddaughters Christen and Gina Scozzafave both from Chicago, Ill. Special thanks to great nephew John Fowler for the special care and love extended to Ginny in the past year and also special longtime friend Bettie LaJoie. She left many great nieces and nephews and dear friends behind her. Ginny was predeceased by her daughter Christina, parents John and Bessie Newhouse, step mother Eleanor Newhouse, sister Gertrude (Ken) Bailey and sister Elizabeth Hanson, nieces Betsy Fowler Lloyd and Patty Hansen and son-in-law Robert Deluga.
