He was Headmaster, president and board chairman of Carson Long Military Institute for 61 years. An Army veteran of both World War I and World War II, he was a 1921 graduate of Gettysburg College.
Since 1933, he had been listed in "Who's Who in the America" and "Who's Who in the World." He received the Pennsylvania Distinguished Service Medal in 1975. He published four books. He was a member of the Governor's and White House Conferences on Aging, Harrisburg Hospital board of Directors, and the board of governors of Keystone Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
He was a charter member of the New Bloomfield Lions Club and New Bloomfield Fire Company and was a member of Perry County Historical Society, Christ Lutheran Church, Newport American Legion Post, and New Bloomfiled Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are a son, Col. Carson E.R. Holman of The Maples; a daughter, Mrs. Beth Reynolds of St. Mary's City, Maryland; 12 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
A service was held at the Carson Long Military Institute Chapel with the Rev. Joseph D. Long, his pastor, officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in New Bloomfiled Cemetery.
