It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond “Ray” Hobbs at Haven Hill Retirement Centre on June 18, 2020 at the age of 82.
Ray leaves behind his wife of 42 years, his son & daughter in law, and his only granddaughter. He will also be missed tremendously by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Goldie, Bud and Rollie; sisters, Verna, Irma and Evelyn.
Ray was born on the farm near Quill Lake, SK. on July 15, 1937 to Russell and Margaret Hobbs. As a young man, Ray was an avid hockey player having played for the Regina Pats before he began his life long career as a carpenter. Ray would fondly reminisce about his time spent at his cottage with family and friends on Long Lake, SK. Ray was faced with significant challenges in life of which he overcame. He was a true inspiration to others.
Ray and his wife met on a Mediterranean cruise and were married shortly thereafter. They lived briefly in Regina before heading west to BC where they built their life together. Ray always thought of SK as home. Ray was an avid classic vehicle enthusiast and passionate about restorations. He completed his 1949 IH KB2 restoration in 2009. Ray and his family would often travel to IH shows to share his pride & joy with others.
All of this was put on hold with the arrival of his first and only granddaughter, the apple of his eye. Ray was a doting grandfather who would spend countless hours swooning over her. To say he was overjoyed because of her would be an understatement. He was truly honored that his legacy would pass on through her.
Ray would often reminisce about the “good old days” with tales about his childhood, friendships, travels and family. Always joking and laughing, Ray was known for his sense of humor. Above all else, he was a kind-hearted and devoted family man. The void he will leave behind can only be filled with fond memories he and his family created together.
