Betty Courtney, 90 of Pipestone, Minnesota died on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Pipestone. Services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020 at Saint Mary’s in Lake Wilson at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Betty Courtney was born on April 3, 1930 in Arthur Township near Browns Valley, Minnesota to Philip and Blondell (Farquer) Weissenstein. She attended Browns Valley School. When Betty was 14 years old, the family moved to Walnut Grove, Minnesota. On June 1, 1949, Betty married Donald Morris and they continued to live in Walnut Grove.

Betty moved to Lake Wilson in 1973. In 1977, Betty and Don divorced. On December 22, 1979, she married Robert “Ken” Courtney in Slayton. Betty and Ken continued to live in Lake Wilson. Ken died on August 13, 1993.

During her adult life, Betty helped out on the farm, and enjoyed working in her vegetable garden and attending farmers markets in Slayton and sometimes Pipestone. She also enjoyed cooking and cooked at various places including Lake Wilson café, Legends in Slayton, the Hatfield Bar and at Good Samaritan Home where she was a resident the last few weeks of her life.

In May 2018, Betty moved from Lake Wilson to Falls Landing in Pipestone, then in August 2020, moved to Good Sam.

Betty is survived by six children: Barbara Morris, Redwood Falls, MN David Morris, Anchorage Alaska, Jim (Eva) Morris, Lindsborg, KS; Danny Morris, Waterloo, IA; Patty Morris, Minneapolis, MN and Richard (Donna) Morris, Pipestone; nine grandchildren, Ashley Hansen; Aaron Morris; Mark Courtney; Henry Courtney; R. J. Meyer, Mack Benson, Anders Benson, Nicholas Benson, and Allan Morris; twenty-two great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; brother, George Bedner, Lamberton, MN; sister, Joyce Nielsen, Windom, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Frank Bedner, husband, Ken; daughter, Theresa Courtney, Daughter-in-laws, Barb Morris and Linda Morris; sister-in-law, Jean Bedner and brother-in-law Edward Nielsen.
