Active in society and a patroness of the arts she was involved in many charitable activities. For several years she and her husband owned a box at the Metropolitan Opera House and both were active in the National Horse Show Association. They took part in annual horse shows at Madison Square Gardens. During World War II she aided several Allied causes. Their yacht, Hi-Esmaro was turned over to the Navy in 1940 and named the Niagara. It was badly damaged during aJapanese air attack and was sunk. Their daughter, the former Estelle Manville, married Count Folke Bernadotte, nephew of King Gustaf V of Sweden and was known as an outstanding event and took place at their home in Pleasantville, New York. At her death, she was residing at 885 Park Avenue, Manhattan.
