Mitchell is(not was) my friend, of over 40 plus years. We grew up together, we went to school together played together, even sometimes ate together. He was a very sweet even tempered wonderful little boy, I never saw him fight with other kids, in fact he always tried to be the peacemaker. when he was old enough he joined the Army during the Vietnam War, he achieved the rank of Sgt. While home on leave, he borrowed a friends truck and it broke down on the expressway, he was out of the truck checking it out and he was hit by a speeding car, resulting in the loss of his right leg. Even through all that he never was bitter or angry, he just went on. He would not use the prosthetic leg he had, because it slowed him down. Mitchell took control and went on with his life. He went fishing, worked on cars, rode motorcycles, drove cars and rode a bike where ever he wanted to go. Mitchell had a smile that never left his face, and it was a smile that could light up the darkest day, he had soft gentle brown eyes, that always shined, and a voice a soft as a rose petal. In all the years I knew this wonderful man, I never heard him say an unkind word to or about another living soul, never was his voice raised. In the dictionary there is the word "LOVE" it has no picture, because they say you can't see love. I disagree- I saw what love is it was Mitchell Harris. He is love in human form. I Love you dear Mitchell and as long as I breathe and even after I will never forget him.
No one could know Mitchell and not love him. Waiting to greet him on the other side was his father John Henry Harris Sr., his 2 brothers De Luis and John Henry Jr, and his sister Bertha. Mitchell leaves to celebrate his life, his mother Rose Harris, his sons, Mitchell Helms, Michael Harris Jr. his daughter Shanina Harris 10 step-children 11 grandchildren. Cause of Death : Hit by car while riding his bike.
