Son of Michael & Elizabeth (Fisk) Dwinel and husband of Mary Esty. They were the parents of 10 children: Jonathan, Thomas, Mary, Elizabeth, Abigail, Hannah, Benjamin, Israel, Sarah and Esther.Born in Topsfield, Benjamin Dwinnell, Sr, moved to Boxford in 1770, where he lived until 1777, when he moved to Keene, New Hampshire, where he died.

He married Mary Estes on February 25, 1751, in Topsfield, Essex County, Masschusetts.

Benjamin Dwinnell, Sr, marched from Boxford in 1775 at the Lexington Alarm. He was one of the original, famous, Massachusetts "Minute Men" in the Revolutionary War. He served as a Private in Captain Jacob Gould's Company in Colonel Samuel Johnson's Regiment for five days starting on April 19th 1775.
