Casualty of WWII, Police Constable Charles Desmond Dore is arguably the last member of the British and Commonwealth Forces to be killed whilst on Active Service during the Second Word War, the cut-off date for recognition being 31st December 1947. He was born in Edmonton, north London in 1922, the son of Clarence Charles Victor and Margaret Mary Dore, (nee Barry).He had joined the army at the outbreak of the Second World War aged 16 having lied about his age. He enlisted with the Palestine Police Force in 1944; Service No: 3796, and is one of ten of the sixteen police casualties in Jerusalem to be classified as war dead. Generally, police officers killed on duty are classified as Civilian War Dead, unless they were acting under the control and direction of the Military, as was the case with Dore.He is remembered on the grave of his parents in Enfield Crematorium, North London, England.
