GADSDEN, Ala. - Helen M. Blevins Flynn, 71, of 129 Indian Camp Road, Gadsden, Ala, and formerly of McDowell County, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at an Atlanta, Ga. hospital. Born March 7, 1929 in Vivian, she was a daughter of the late Rufus James Church and Mae Roark Church.
She had been a resident of Alabama since 1985. While residing in McDowell County, she attended the Trinity Temple in Welch and was a waitress at the Mountaineer Restaurant.
In addition to her parents, one brother and one sister preceded her in death.
Survivors include her former husband and beloved friend, Merle E. Blevins of Gadsden; six children, Alaina Sue Martinez and husband Jimmie of Princeton, Bill Church of Nacogdoches, Texas, William E. Blevins and wife Gail of Fayetteville, N.C., Carolyn White and husband Steve of Jacksonville, Fla., Danny Blevins and wife Mamie Lou of Gadsden, and Brenda Godsey and husband Donnie of Columbia, S.C.; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Roger Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell. Friends may call today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
