LAC Ernest Aitkens was killed and two others injured when their Fairey Battle bomber from No. 8 Bombing and Gunnery School crashed 5 miles east of Kenyon Field near Lethbridge, Alberta. He was a wireless operator gunner student who had just graduated. Before joining the RCAF, Ernest was an invoice clerk for the Hudson's Bay Company at Vancouver.
