Vera Rutherford Abbott, 83, of Powell, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on September 17, 2020, with dignity, grace, and freshly done hair. Burial will be at Mankin Cemetery.

Vera Evelyn was born on May 31, 1937, in Navarro County, Texas, to the late Odie Aaron “Red” and Jimmie Lou Thornsberry Rutherford. On June 29, 1956, she married Roy Lester Abbott. Vera worked in retail for most of her life in various capacities, but her favorite was working at Harvie’s and was affectionately known as the “Harvie’s Lady” around town.

She was a longtime member of the Powell Baptist Church. Her favorite thing in the world was to be surrounded by friends and family, especially her twin sister, Vivian, close family friends, Sonny Bancroft and Susan Carver, and brothers-in-law, Danny Abbott, Leamon Rogers, and Nolan Baker.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Roy Lester Abbott in 2008.

Survivors include her daughter, Donna Simmons, of Powell; grandson, Chris Simmons and his wife, Amanda; granddaughter, Heather Spell and her husband, Jeremy; great-grandsons, Ryan and Colin Spell; great-granddaughters: Evelyn Spell, Faith Boyte, and Brianna Boyte; sisters, Peggy Joan McClendon and Vivian Lowe, of Corsicana; as well as many other relatives and friends.
