d/o Albert Colgan Bilson and Grace Angela (Meehan) Bilson; w/o Donald Seavey

Sunapee- On September 19, 2020 Joan Monica Bilson Seavey ascended from this earthly realm to join her beloved husband in the kingdom of heaven.

Joan was born November 30, 1932 in Haden Heights, NJ to Albert Colgan Bilson and Grace Angela (Meehan) Bilson. Joan grew up enjoying a world where she could hop the bus to Philly even as a teenager, summer with family on the Jersey shore, or attend a celebration to commission a new ship as a young child with her father. Joan graduated with a full college scholarship to the University of Wisconsin majoring in Journalism. Joan and her friends had other plans. They were going to be nurses. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing, Philadelphia,PA in 1953. After graduating she and her lifelong dear friend Thelma (Homschek) Jamison would have grand adventures doing private duty nursing, being involved in one of the first heart valve transplants and then those two young women would hop in the car and gallivant halfway across the country to check on that special heart valve patient. What an adventure!

Thelma would be the one to introduce Joan to the love of her life, Donald Seavey.

Don would ask Joan to marry her while visiting the Nubble Light, York Beach, ME. They were wed on a snowy day, January 18, 1958 in Rochester, NH; Don’s hometown.

Don and Joan would live in many places in their lifetime. Joan seemed to always have a nursing position. Joan worked in private duty, Emergency, Supervisor, Director of Nursing in Elreno, OK, Director of Risk Management and Quality Assurance at Gifford Memorial Hospital and also at Florida Health Care, Daytona Beach Florida.

Their lives were complete with the birth of their son Don Jr. and Denise. Her grand daughters,Hannah and Monica, were a very big part of her life and attending dance recitals or graduations and hanging with them as they grew into young adults would be life long memories. After quitting her nursing career at the age of 70, Don and Joan would enjoy summering in Rochester, cruising around in their boat on Lake Winnipesaukee , or the very best when they would soar the heavens in a Cessna 172, Joan as Don‘s co-pilot.

After Donald passed in 2016, Joan enjoyed wintering in her condo at HillTop and last year her spot down on the Sugar River. Her time in Sunapee brought back wonderful memories of a time when she and Don resided on Sunny Lane. Joan loved her weekly outings to Salon Salon to have her hair done; just like she had done for the last 50 years. Marilyn, Jodi, Wendy, John and especially Preston always held a special place in her heart and she so looked forward to seeing them every Thursday.

Joan is predecessed by her parents, her in-laws Carlyle and Esther Seavey, and her beloved husband.

Joan is survived by her son, Don Jr. (Donna), children Chris Stanley (Alicia) , Jim Stanley and Rachel (Chris) Lund , and 6 great grandchildren of New York. Denise (Edwin) Preston of Sunapee; grand- daughters Hannah Preston of VA, Monica Preston of AZ, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tom and Connie Mann of Rochester NH and sister -in-law Florence Simonton of Salem, OR, many nieces and nephews.

Joan will be layed to rest with her husband at the NH Veteran’s Cemetery in Boscawen NH. Services will be private.

RM Edgerly and Sons, Inc Rochester, NH are in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, Joan’s children ask that you look to the sky as you hear an airplane pass by and envision their parents together once again soaring the heavens.
