Ann Elenora Walker Abney, age 84, of Kensington, Georgia passed away peacefully Monday, September 21, 2020.

Ann was born on August 9, 1936 to James E. Walker, Jr and Carolyn Graham Walker of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee.

Ann graduated from Girls’ Preparatory School in Chattanooga, attended the University of Alabama, and graduated from Mary Washington College where she was a member of Chi Omega Fraternity. She retired from the Walker County Board of Education after serving 35 years as a teacher, principal, and Director of Personnel. Ann was a member of the LaFayette First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Cheerful Doers Sunday School class. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Sorority and Beta Sigma Phi Philanthropic Sorority.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Billy Shaw Abney.

She is survived by her son, Shaw (Mary) Abney and daughter, Anna (Emanuele) Bartolini; grandchildren, Walker and William Abney; sister, Graham Burns; and several nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, September 26 at the LaFayette City Cemetery with pastor Derrick Fielder officiating

Pallbearers are David Simmons, Lee Burns, Danny Nuckolls, Brannon Nuckolls, Brent Martin, and Ross Martin.

Honorary pallbearers are Jim Burns, Graham Burns, and Steve Donald.

Arrangements are by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home, LaFayette.
