Kathryn Therese Newcomer died Feb. 9 at her Malibu home. She was 86.

Newcomer was born Kathryn Therese Jordan on June 18, 1920, in Peoria, Ill. to James Edward Jordan and Marian Driscoll. Her parents were known as "Fibber McGee and Molly" by millions of radio listeners during the 1930s to the 1950s.

Throughout her life, Newcomer was an avid music lover and an accomplished pianist and organist. She also pursued an interest in creative writing and had several short stories and poems published in various popular magazines. Newcomer possessed a green thumb, known for her rose gardens and herbs.

For more than 50 years, Newcomer was married to Dr. Victor Newcomer, a well-known dermatologist and UCLA professor. He died in 2002.

Newcomer is survived by her children Diane Marie Langmuir, Jennifer Jordan and Don Newcomer (and his wife Beth); grandchildren Tyson Mack, Clayton Mack and Molly Langmuir; nieces Janice Jordan, Molly Jordan and Peggy Jordan.

The family said that in keeping with Newcomer's desire for privacy in life, there will be no public memorial.

Donations can be made in Newcomer's name to the charity of one's choice.
