Dorothy E. Kercher, 88, died late Tuesday at Courtyard Healthcare. She was born Sept. 25, 1923 in Gilboa Township, to Arthur and Fay (Nelson) Gardner. She was married to Lyle B. Kiser who died in 1963. She then married John A. Kercher in 1969; he died in 2003. She is survived by a son, Michael Kiser, Scottsdale, Ariz.; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, John Gardner, who lives in Minnesota. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki Rhodes; a stepson, John D. Kercher; and a brother, Jim Gardner. She worked as a secretary at Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds for 39 years, retiring in 1994. During her tenure at the 4-H Fairgrounds, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the 1985 annual convention of the Indiana Fair Association. In 1988 she was designated a Certified Fair Executive by the International Association of Fairs and Expositions. A longtime, faithful and active member of Plymouth United Church of Christ, Mrs. Kercher served on many committees and in 1974 served as the church's first woman moderator. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the noon funeral service today at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. The Rev. David Boothby of Plymouth United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
