Jane graduated from John Bapst and had worked at the Bangor Daily News in Bangor and in the insurance field in Cleveland, Ohio. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.
Surviving are her children, Michael Gilbert and his wife, Rita of Hampden, Deborah Hichborn of Carmel, Patricia Mower and her husband, Dale of Bangor, Gary Gilbert and his wife, Julie of Gorham, N.H., and Nancy Gilbert of Searsport; eight grandchildren, Cathy Gilbert of Newburyport, Mass., Matthew Gilbert of Hampden, Tina Gilbert of Gorham, N.H., Amber and Ashley Hichborn of Carmel, Meaghan, Derek and Melissa Mower of Bangor. She also leaves a special cousin, Sally Barry of Annapolis, Md. Jane was predeceased by her loving husband, Francis McDonald; a brother, William Thebeau; a sister, Elizabeth Hatch; and a grandson.
Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. Friday at St. John's Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
