Robert W. Nikula, Sr., 85, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at Roo-Lan Health Center in Lacey. He was a 15 year resident of Olympia. Robert was born to William and Anna (Karppinen) Nikula on September 25, 1916 in Hancock, Mich. He graduated from Hancock High School in 1935. For two years following, he was in the C.C.C.'s at Glacier National Park, Montana, then several years working in the Mines in Butte, Montana. He later was employed at the Todd Ship Yards in Tacoma and served in the Army during WWII. He farmed while living in Elma and worked for Evans Products in Aberdeen, retiring in 1978. He was a former member of the Aberdeen Eagles, Elks, and the Chehalis Moose Lodge, where he enjoyed dancing for many years. Robert was preceded in death by two sisters, Delia Grow and Margaret Briegel. He is survived by his wife, Beulah; five sons: Arthur (Pat) of Tenino, Robert, Jr. of Olympia, Edward (Becky) of Ferndale, Wash., Raymond (Kathy) of Tenino, and Richard (Robin) of Houston, Texas; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. In accordance to his wishes, there will be no service. Arrangements made by Whiteside Family Mortuary in Elma. Inurnment will take place at the Elma Masonic Cemetery.
