Johann Ulrich Arner with his family left Zurich Switzerland in early autumn of 1734 On the "Mercury". After 8 months of adventure and hardship they landed in Philadelphia to begin life in a new world. From this little family are descended the Arner's the Aurners and the Orners of Pennsylvania and elsewhere in the United States and possibly the Arners of Canada, whose earliest known ancestor was Jacob Arner, a loyalist from PA. In 1746 he was one of the founder's of the Heidelberg Reformed Church and contributed to it's erection. In 1750 he sold a tract nearly 400 acres. Then in May he received a second warrant for land for 25 acres of land. The last records of Johann in Pennsylvania is in 1762 when he paid a tax.
