Sarnia, Nov. 13 - Funeral services were held here Wednesday for Milton Bentley Purdy, who saw Abraham Lincoln shot and whose father was taught to read and write by George Washington.

Mr. Purdy died Monday in Detroit. He was 93 years old. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. James Mather, Point Edward; and a son, William.

Mr. Purdy's father Joseph, not only was instructed by George Washington, but was a soldier in the Revolutionary war, according to Mrs. Hattie McCann, a granddaughter who attended the services. Mr. Purdy died at her home.

Before his death Mr. Purdy said he lived in a house inhabited by John Wilkes Booth in Washington. He said he had been called to testify to threats he had heard Booth make, threatening to kill Lincoln.

It is believed that Mr. Purdy was the only remaining member of the Sons of the American Revolution whose father actually fought in that war.
