Odell Aamot, 81, Wendell, Minn., passed away Dec. 9, 2004, at a Rochester, Minn., hospital.

Services will be held Dec. 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wendell, with Dr. Eugene Boe officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Wendell.

Odell was born June 26, 1923, in Wendell, Minn., to Omer and Minnie (Brown) Aamot. He was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church and attended grade school in Wendell. He finished his education at the Morris Agricultural School in Morris.

Odell served as a fireman in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946, stationed primarily in Pensacola, Fla.

On Dec. 11, 1948, Odell married Joyce Moe at Tea, S.D. They made their home in Wendell, where Odell was in partnership at Aamot Implement in Wendell and Aamot & Ellingson in Elbow Lake. Odell loved small town living, serving his community as city council member, mayor, commander of the Legion, PTA president, a charter member of the Lions Club, and served as fire chief of the Wendell Fire Department. He also served on the board of directors for the State Bank of Wendell, now known as Eagle Bank. Odell was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church all of his life. He taught Sunday school and served on the Church Council and most recently, on the Evangelism Committee.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years; his two daughters, Barb (Dewey) Tietz and Cathy (Keith) Ward, both of Bismarck; his son, Mike (Joyce Harstad), Wendell; six grandchildren, Jen (Dan) Polk, Chris Tietz, Christine Ward and Kari Ward, all of Bismarck, Dan Aamot, Kirksville, Mo., and Joe Aamot, Wendell; three great-grandsons, Darien, Adam and Mason Polk, all of Bismarck; one sister, Mignon (Roy) Randall, and one brother, Hanley Aamot, both of Wendell; and many nieces, nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son-in-law, Mike Morgan; and a niece, Lori Randall.

Odell will be most remembered by his passion for farming, the love for his grandchildren and his ability to tease and be teased.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Trinity Kitchen Fund. (Erickson-Smith Funeral Home, Elbow Lake, Minn.)
