He enlisted with Company A of the 3rd Regiment. He was captured at Hoover's GAP Tenn on 24 June 1863 and was a prisoner of War until June 1865. Within the paperwork is a page from his wife, Sarah Amos, which states they married % July 1865 in Dade County, and Elbert died on 26 Nov. 1910 also in Dade County, GA. Pension was granted
