Echo Marvel (Davis) Cheney was the daughter of Hayes Davis and Willetta Schooley. She grew up in Johnstown and on a ranch on the Niobrara River. She graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1928, then attended school in Chadron, Nebraska and at the University of Wyoming. She taught school in the Ainsworth, Nebraska area and in Rawlins, Wyoming. She married Glenn Cheney in Papillion, Nebraska on 20 June 1936.
