Son of William Streit & Maria Christine (Duval) Dickinson Sr. He was a freshman at V.P.I (Virginia Polytechnic Institute- aka Virginia Tech now) when he died of scarlet fever complicated by pneumonia. He was a class officer and member of the school band. Clay was a member of local and state 4H Clubs. In Feb 1941, just prior to his death, he was awarded a $150 scholarship given to first year students at V.P.I. by the National Dairy Products Corporation in its annual contest for efficient milk production.
