Probate, dated 16 Nov 1854, New York County, New York: Petitioner, George E. Stone with John C. Stone and Henry H Stone, stated that his father was "lost and ? ?" and gave the above death date. Other names given were Andrew S. Stone residing at Tremont, IL; Edwin L Stone, residing at San Francisco, CA; Jane M. (Stone) Lord, and Harriet H. (Stone) English. Also, a guardian for Catherine G. Stone, dau of Wood G. Stone. Another name added was James M. Stone (son of Andrew S. Stone).

Note: Asaph obtained a passport 7 Oct 1853, and then made his Will 14 Oct 1853, being of the City of New York. His notice of death was published 17 Nov 1854 in the Albany Evening Journal. He died at the sinking of the steamer, Arctic.
