GEO. BOWERSOCK KILLED.

Geo. Bowersock, of Pittsburg, Kan., whose mother lives at Bushong, was killed in a wreck on the 'Frisco road Sunday morning. Mr. Bowersock was raised in Lyon county and had a host of friends. He was a locomotive engineer and had long been in service of the 'Frisco. He was acting in that capacity at the time of his death. He was a Mason and a prominent member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He was 27 years old and unmarried. The remains will be brought to Bushong for burial. The dispatch announcing his death gave no particulars as to the cause of the wreck, which seems to have occurred sometime yesterday morning. Mr. Bowersock lived only a few hours after the accident.

He had two brothers in the service of the same road--one the foreman of a bridge gang and the other an engineer.

DUE TO CARELESSNESS

The following press dispatch has been received:

PITTSBURG, Kas., Dec. 16.--The carelessness of a brakeman in leaving the switch open at a "Y" on the Frisco, a mile west of here, last night resulted in a fatal accident. Twenty-five cars had been switched into the 'Y' and as the train came down a steep grade into Pittsburg the engine ran into the cars standing on the siding, crushing Engineer George Bowersock against the boiler head, where he was held three hours and frightfully scalded before extricated. He was removed to this city hospital and died at 7 o'clock this morning. Fireman Will M. Maddy had one of his feet scalded, which was also crushed, and it is thought that amputation will be necessary. He is also injured internally. The engine and seven cars are badly wrecked.
