Cristin Colleen E. Duprey, a junior majoring in health sciences from Middletown, died on Tuesday, Feb. 20. She was severely injured in an automobile accident on Feb. 14.

Ms. Duprey, from Middletown, majored in health sciences at the University. At UD, she cohosted a radio program, "The Rush," on WVUD radio and also was active in the Black Student Union.

A 2004 graduate of St. Andrew's School, she served as head coach of the girls volleyball team there. She also was involved with her church and helped with the Teen Ministry at the Living Waters Worship Center in Middletown.

Jack O'Neill, assistant professor of health, nutrition and exercise sciences, recalled Ms. Duprey's "contagious smile" and said, "She always expressed a desire to work with children and had a real knack in working with children. Her personality traits would have served very well in her chosen profession of leisure service management with children."

Aideen Murphy, who teaches a course in "Cultural Diversity in Community Contexts," expressed her condolences and those of the other students in her class. "We only had the chance to know Cristin for a short time, but in that time she made such an impact on our class community. She tried to inspire and encourage others to be as enthusiastic about working with kids as she quite openly and obviously was. She wanted to make a difference in the world. Our all too brief encounter with her energy, intellect, empathy and humanity made us believe that she would achieve her goal."

"She was certainly a vibrant young individual and-most uncommon among undergraduate students-seem to have an actual sense of the direction she wanted to choose. Her plan was to mix educational development and values within a leisure atmosphere," Roger Spacht, assistant professor of health, nutrition and exercise sciences, said. "We were fortunate to have known this uncommon young lady for too short of a period."

Ms. Duprey is survived by her parents, Wallace and Stacey Duprey; her sister, Devin; her brother, Jaylin; and a large and loving extended family.

A viewing will be held from 3-8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 26, at Bethel Gospel Assembly, located at 2-26 East 120th St., New York City, with the funeral scheduled there at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 27. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Linden, N.J., after the funeral service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cristin Colleen E. Duprey Scholarship Fund at St. Andrew's School, 350 Noxonton Rd., Middletown, DE 19709. Condolences may be mailed to Wallace and Stacey Duprey, St. Andrew's School, 350 Noxontown Rd., Middletown, DE 19709.
