Early Life: Joy was born December 16, 1917, on the Cooper Homestead in Meagher County, near White Sulpher Springs*, Montana, to William S. and Mabel Cora Wurm Cooper. After the Cooper family gave over the homestead and moved to Manhattan, Montana, Joy attended school and graduated from Manhattan High School.
Life’s Work | Service | Interests: On December 23, 1941, Joy married William Owsley "Bill" Shadoan and they had three sons: David, Danny, and Doug. Bill and their son, David, were killed in a train accident in 1951. Joy and her second husband, Kenneth Gale "Ken" Gover, were married December 31, 1956; they had a son and daughter, Kelvin and Patty. In 1966, they moved to Victor, Montana, to run a Husky Service Station and a small diner and coffee shop. Ken preceded her in death in 1980. "Grandma Joy'', as she was affectionately called by the many who knew her, loved watching and cheering on the Victor Pirates, working in the community, and serving others at the Box Elder Café, Victor Merc, Senior Center, and finally retired at the age of 90, from the Victor School Library. The homestead experience shaped Joy's personality, she lived life as a strong, self-sufficient and loving soul, while watchfully taking care of everyone who passed her way. Joy Wilda Cooper Shadoan Gover passed peacefully to a better world on October 9, 2020, at The Living Centre in Stevensville, Montana. She was 102.

Survived By: Her daughter, Patty; her three sons: Danny and Ann, Douglas and Ruth, and Kelvin and Cheryl; her stepdaughter, Frances and Doug; her daughter-in-law, Gwin; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and one sister-in-law, Audrey Gover.
Preceded In Death By: Her husbands, Bill and Ken; her son, David; her parents; her siblings: Alv, George, Bill, Howard, Blanch, and Junie; and her stepchildren: Buddy, Vernon, and Barb.
