He entered college in 1820, and spent the larger part of his course with the class which was graduated in 1824.
He studied law in the Yale Law School, and was admitted to the bar, but never practiced the profession.
His father being one of the owners of the territory now occupied by the city of Sandusky, Ohio, he emigrated at an early date to that locality, where the rest of his life was spent, in charge of his large landed interests. He acquired the title of General by connection with the State militia. He married on Jan. 30, 1830, Miss Caroline Hurd, who now survives him with their children, two sons and three daughters.
In 1894 General Mills' health began to fail and in April, 1895, he took up his residence with his younger son, also in Sandusky. After this he was mostly to the house; his death, on March 6, 1897, in his 92nd year, was the result of a fall.
