During the First World War--bank clerk by trade, residing on Spring Garden Road in Halifax, Nova Scotia, 19-year-old Ira Otto Leslie enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 9 Aug 1918 in Halifax. He was a gunner, Regimental (Service) Number 2101084, and served in Canada with the 6th Artillery Depot for a short time until war's end. He was diagnosed with tuberculosis which was the result of his military service.

'Otto I.' (sic) Leslie died on 9 June 1922 in Halifax, Halifax County; death record can be found in Registration Year: 1922 - Book: 74 - Page: 256.
*Single, a bank clerk by trade, he died of tuberculosis in his residence on Spring Garden Road in Halifax at the age of 21 years.

*Born in Grindstone, Magdalen Island, he was the son of William G. and Alice (Burke) Leslie [father born in Halifax County; mother born in Magdalen Islands].

*His father, W. G. Leslie of Spring Garden Road was the informant.
He was laid to rest in St. Luke's Anglican Cemetery in Grindstone on 12 June 1922.
