Don Morris Thompson

Don Morris Thompson, 94, formerly of Bronaugh, MO, passed away Friday, September 21, 2007, at Barone Alzheimer Care Center, Nevada, MO, following a brief illness. He was born August 31, 1913, in Bronaugh, MO, to Chauncey Lee Thompson and Nellie Pearl Feller Thompson.

He married Eileen Kerr on May 9, 1941, and she preceded him in death on June 27, 1993.

Don was born and raised in this area and spent virtually his entire life here. He served in the U. S. Navy during WW II serving in the Pacific Theatre of War, aboard the U.S.S. Topeka. Following his time in the service, he returned to Bronaugh and operated Thompson DX Service Station from 1946 to 1969. Following retirement from the service station, he worked for many years at the Nevada Elks and Eagles Lodges. Don was a member of the Bronaugh Christian Church, the local VFW, Nevada Elks, and the Bronaugh Lions Club. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Survivors include one sister-in-law, Virgie Thompson, Bronaugh, MO, numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by one brother, Darrell Thompson and five sisters, Juanita Day, Lee Earl Shearburn, Erma Shearburn, Alta Bunton, and Nelma Ripley.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 24, 2007, at Worsley Cemetery, Bronaugh, MO, with Pastor Bill Platt officiating. Friends may call now and until 10:00 a.m. on Monday morning at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO.

Memorials may be given to the Worsley Cemetery Association in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
