Mary Ann (Davis) Sheeks Bates widow of Nicholas Sheeks and widow of Willard Bates.
Mary Ann married Nicholas Sheeks in 1850 at the age of 19 and had 7 children, Ellen, Samuel, Amanda, John David, George N, Elizabeth and Ruben Curtis Sheeks. After the death of Nicholas in about 1868, she then married Willard Bates and gave birth to Jasper and Newton Bates.
Mary Ann was admtted to the Cumberland County Almshouse on 19 July 1879 reason listed was that she was blind and old.
She lived at the poor farm for the next 30 years until her death in 1910
Her obit was in the Toledo Democrat Thurs. Apr 21, 1910 and said:
""Mrs. Bates died at the county farm Monday and the remains were interred in Mt. Zion cemetery, Union township, Tuesday."
