Obit: 6 Nov 1939: Lincoln Farrell, one of Carroll county's first rural mail carriers, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home in Denison at 6:30 Sunday morning. Mr Farrell's death came unexpectedly. He had been in his usual health, and he and his wife had planned to drive to Vail Sunday to take dinner with friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Church in Carroll at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon, following short rites at the Luft Funeral Home in Denison. The Rev Mr Grigsby, minister of the Methodist Church at Denison, will officiate, assisted by the Rev W F Clayburg of Carroll. Burial will be in the family lot in the Carroll Cemetery.

Mr Farrell, who was 76, was born at Lost Nation, Clinton County, IA, Sept 22, 1863. Part of his boyhood was spent in that community. In 1886 he was married at Irwin, IA, to Miss Ella Nora Sharp of Irwin. They established their home on a farm near Irwin and later farmed near Manning from which they came to Carroll to reside.

Mr Farrell was a rural mail carrier here for 30 years. He came to Carroll at the time of the old Star Routes, his route taking him to Old Carrollton. He later served patrons on a 24 mile route north and east of Carroll, which was his route at the time of his retirement Jan 1, 1932. When Mr Farrell retired he roughly estimated that he had traveled more than 240,000 miles in Carroll county. During his 30 years of service he had worn out 5 horses and 7 automobiles.

Following his retirement Mr and Mrs Farrell moved from Carroll to Lake City, where they were living when Mrs Farrell died in 1933. Mr Farrell later married Mrs Alice DeHart of Lincoln, NE. They lived in Lake City for a short time before moving to Denison, which has been their home for about 3 years. Mr Farrell was a member of the Methodist Church. He also belonged to the Woodman Lodge. Mr Farrell was an active worker in the Rural Letter Carriers Association.

Surviving with his wife are 6 sons and 1 daughter: Glenn Farrell and Clyde L Farrell , Carroll; Harry Farrel, Pasadena, CA; Merle Farrell, LaMesa, CA; Homer Farrell, Audubon; Raymond Farrell, Council Bluffs and Mrs Ralph Lillard (Doris) Jolley, IA. Another daughter, Mrs F V Hibbs (Vera), died Nov 9 1934. Mr Farrell also leaves 1 brother, Emery Farrell of Denison and 1 sister, Mrs Delaney Corson of Rockwell City.
