Aquilla was born in 1795 to Orman Jarvis and Hannah Cole, one of several children. On 14 Dec 1820, he married Matilda Christopher, the daughter of James and Elizabeth Bond Christopher of Baltimore. They can be found living there in the 1830 census with four young children.

In 1839, the family moved west to Zanesville, Muskingum County, OH, possibly travelling part way by locomotive, this according to the later recollections of Elizabeth Jarvis Laird, one of their daughters. Aquilla can be found in Zanesville in the 1840 and 1850 census with his family. Several of his older girls married prior to 1850 and moved elsewhere with their spouses.

Sometime shortly before or after 1860, (possibly in the war but no records are found), 'Aquilla dies and/or the family splits up. A few of the younger children appear to move to Louisiana. There are very few records of the family in the 1860 census, other than the married children. Two of the younger boys, Joseph and Ashael, appear to have joined the military during the civil war. Son John and daughters Mary and Georgeanna remained in Zanesville after their marriage.

Matilda can be found living with Georgeanna in 1870, shortly before Matilda's death in 1874. Her son John stated at her death that he had been helping to support her since 1862.

No burial or marker can be found for either Aquilla or Matilda. I am creating a virtual memorial / burial in Greenwood Cemetery, as this is where their children who remained in Zanesville are buried.

Aquilla's exact date and place of death is unknown, but it is assumed to be bet 1857-1862.
