Jesse Clyde Keith, the son of Preston James and Rachel Ann Hunter Keith, was born 29 July, 1888 in Melville Twp, Audubon county, Iowa died 28 Oct 1979 at Audubon County Memorial Hospital at the age of 91 years 2 months and 29 days. He graduated from Audubon High School in 1909 and attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He united with the Audubon Presbyterian Church in 1917. 5 Mar 1917 he married Rose Elizabeth Nelson in the Grand Avenue Methodist Church in Kansas City, MO and 3 children were born to this union.
He was a grocer in Audubon all of his working life and retired in 1949. He served in many civic and church activities including Elder in the Presbyterian Church, Chamber of Commerce Board and Audubon County Fair Board. He was a 50-year member and Past Master of Veritas Lodge No. 392, A.F. & A.M., a 50 year member of Past Patron of Audubon Chapter No 421 of the O.E.S. he was Rainbow Dad of the Audubon Rainbow Girls and served on the advisory board for many years. He received the Grand Cross of Color. He was a member of Amity Chapter No 93 R.A.M. Atlantic Council No 19 R.S.M.; Godfrey Commandery No 44. Knights Templar; and the ZaGaZig Shrine Temple. He resided at the Friendship Home for the past 4 years.
Preceding him in death was his wife in 1970; his parents; and 1 brother, H. Dell Keith. Survivors include his children: Mrs Lester (Wilma) McDaniel of Atlantic, IA; Leland N Keith of Sunrise Beach, MO and Mrs Thomas H (Joan E) Hays of Denver, CO; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Mrs Merle (Cecil) Chesnut of Adair, IA, Esther C Keith of Audubon and Mrs Collis (Juanita) Smith of Casey, IA. Funeral services were conducted by Rev Andrew J Hofer at First Presbyterian Church in Audubon on Wednesday 11 Oct 1979 at 10:30 am. Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. Masonic services were Tuesday at 7:30 pm conducted by Veritas Lodge No 392 A.F. & A.M. at McFadden Funeral Home in Audubon. Casket bearers were Dennis Acrea, Grover Davis, Dick Evans, Vincent Jensen, Earl Lucas and Merle Petersen.
