Thane Scott Hoyte, 39, of Southworth, died Tuesday at his home after a 35-year battle with cancer.

He was born in Fort Belvoir, Va., to Barry and Sandra (Wallace) Hoyte. He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1982.

On June 27, 1998, he married Delia Ortiz in South Colby. She preceded him in death in 2002.

Mr. Hoyte worked as a marine machinery mechanic at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard since 1981.

He was a member of Kitsap Dive Team and a volunteer at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. In addition, he was an avid bowler (mixed doubles), artist and photographer.

As a youth, he played baseball, football and soccer. He also participated in Boy Scouts for many years.

Survivors include his parents, now of Manchester; two brothers, Seth Hoyte and his wife, Michelle, of Tucson, Ariz., and Thor Hoyte and his wife, Amy, of Tacoma; paternal grandmother, Ruth Doggleby of Oneonta, N.Y.; mater grandmother, Phyllis Wallace of Cadiz, Ohio; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Rill Chapel's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, also at Rill Chapel.

Interment will be at Fraola Cemetery in Port Orchard. An online memorial can be seen at www.rill.com.
