Mrs. India Scales, a well-known and much loved lady, died at her home near Scalesville Saturday evening, Dec. 20, of advancing paralysis following an illness of several months. On Nov. 20, Mrs. Scales was taken to her bed and never recovered. The funeral services were held at South Fork church on Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock, Rev. T.M. Smith officiating, with burial in South Fork cemetery.
Mrs. Scales was born Oct. 8, 1851, and was 68 years, 2 months and 12 days of age. On Sept. 9, 1871, she was united in marriage to John L. Scales. Eight children were born to this union, one son of whom preceded her in death eighteen years ago. Five daughters and two sons are living, as follows: Mrs. Chas. Kelley, Mrs. William Howard of Boonville; Mrs. Amos Skelton of Lynnville, Mrs. Otto Erwin, Lillian Scales and Herman Scales of Scalesville; Raymond Scales of Huntingburg.
Mrs. Scales has always been a kind and much loved woman by all who knew her, always ready to do a kind and helpful deed.
Besides her husband and children, she is survived by one brother, Gaines Bass, of Lynnville, also twenty grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.Daughter of John L. Bass &
