Mother Bertha Barber left this earth for her eternal resting place with her Lord and Savior on October 11, 2020 at Marion General Hospital. She was born March 1, 1939 to the late Valley and Odean Brown in Leland, Mississippi. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age.

In 1969 she relocated her family to Marion, Ohio. While in Marion, she married the late Robert Barber and they raised 8 children and 4 grandchildren in a little 3-bedroom house.

Bertha was a member of Logos Christian Ministries where she was ordained as a church mother. She loved her church and her church family; most of all, she loved the Lord with all her heart. She was faithful to the ministry in all aspects. As a church greeter, she welcomed everyone that came through the church doors with a big smile and a warm heart. She was a devoted member of the Daughters of Life, and she faithfully served the community at the church’s produce pantry. She was the best ticket giver the produce pantry has ever had.

She worked at Hill’s Department Store until the time of its closing. She was an important part of the growth of the Hill’s Corporation. She traveled to other cities to help open new stores. Other employment that she held was at East Lawn Manor in her younger years. After her retirement she worked at Marion Catholic High School as the computer lab monitor.

Bertha was full of life and love. Her love for her family was indescribable and unconditional, and showed in every aspect of her life. She did not have a selfish bone in her body. Her home was always open to anyone in need. She willingly gave of herself, her time, her money, her wisdom, her chastisement, her encouragement, and her support. She was her family’s biggest fan attending sporting events, plays, musicals, school assemblies, birthday parties and any other event that her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren had. She loved to travel, never missing a moving vehicle. Her family has inherited her love for shopping at thrift stores and yard sales. Later in life, she began making and selling her own creations at craft shows all over Marion county.

Mother Bertha Barber will be missed by all who loved and knew her.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Deas and siblings, Cleo Brown, Roy Brown, Odell Brown, and Lewis Brown.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory: 1 sister, Doretha Douglas of Indianapolis, Indiana; 2 brothers, Willie Brown of Marion, Valley(Willie B) Brown, Jr. of Greenville, Mississippi; 4 daughters, Jackie(Jerry) Peterson, Dora Evans, Janice(Michael) Rodgers and Shelia Evans all of Marion; 3 sons, William Evans, Willie Evans of Marion and Rodney(Carmella) Barber of Columbus; 21 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren , 3 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday October 24, 2020 10:00 AM at Logos Christian Ministries 582 Lee St., Marion, OH 43302, burial to follow directly to Marion Cemetery.
