HECKMAN, Valarie
passed away Sunday, September 23, 2007. She was born in Hollywood, California on Valentine's Day in 1945. Graduated from Antelope Valley High School Class of 62. She discovered breast cancer in 1992, but almost five years later when John retired, ever the trooper; they still set out on a "land" voyage in their 5th wheel with plans to live on the road for the next five years. They put down roots close to family when they found that the cancer spread to her bone in 1998. She was treated almost continually until this month. Her battle with cancer was long and difficult, amazing all her doctors, but not her friends who knew the real Valerie. Instead of losing a battle with cancer she merely used it as a vehicle to pass on to a better place. She is survived by her husband John Heckman, her daughter Michelle Field, her son Arnold Stone, son-in- law Greg, her step-children Nancy and Diana and her nine grandchildren. Instead of flowers please make a contribution to the City of Hope Cancer Center in Duarte, Calif.
