Graveside Services Monday, October 26, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Garryowen Cemetery. Visitation on Saturday, October 24, 2020 from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM and Sunday, October 25, 2020 from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM.

Masks are required and only 10 people at a time for visitation.

Thomas Pretty On Top, 80, of Reno Creek Garryowen, Montana died October 22, 2020 surrounded by his family. His Indian name Kokkeesh (Accomplishes Task) was given to him by Hartford Bear Claw, Sr. He was born July 15, 1940, in Crow Agency to Ned and Agnes (Stops) Pretty On Top. He was a member of the Greasy Mouth Clan and was a Ties the Bundle Child. He was raised in the Lodge Grass and Reno Creek areas and received his education at Flandreau Indian Boarding School.

Thomas met the love of his life Beverly at the age of 18 and they married on November 17, 1959, in Crow Agency, Montana. The couple made their first home in Crow Agency and then moved to Reno Creek. He was an active member of the Spirit of Life Four Square Church and also participated in traditional ceremonies.

At the age of fourteen, he worked for the Campbell Farming Corporation and many other small farms in the Lodge Grass area. After farming, he worked for the BIA Forestry Heli-tack, Forester and was a fire fighter for many years. In 1980, he retired to work on the family ranch in Reno Creek. Years later he worked for the Crow Tribe as a maintenance technician and as a security guard. He officially retired in 2005 at the rightful age of 65.

He enjoyed taking sweats with his brothers and sons. Tom enjoyed raising and spending time with his grandchildren. He was proud when his grandsons, Ned, Wyatt, and Louis left on the NPIRA tour. He taught his grandkids many techniques related to breaking horses and enjoyed sitting outside watching them ride. Most of all, his favorite thing to do was get up early every morning to go outside and pray for everyone, as well as every evening. He was always giving all his grandchildren nick names.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his twin sister Faith Victoria Pretty On Top and sister Lynda Whiteman; his sons Woodrow Leon and Thomas Dean Pretty On Top.

He is survived by his beloved wife Beverly; his sons Kenny (Mitzi) and Shawn (Arlene) Pretty on Top, Grover (Christy) Deputee and Ben (Victoria) Cloud; his daughters Norma (Dominic) Yellowmule, Mitcheleen Filesteel, Emma (Louie) Lionshows and Sophie Pretty on Top; his adopted sons Ken Cruz and Shawn Real Bird; his grandchildren Jenny (Albert) Medicine Horse, Farrah (Robert) Springfield III and Louis (Marjorie) Yellowmule, Kenzi, Wyatt, Ned, Kaye, Tywayne, Alyonna, Rochelle, Vanessa Pretty on Top, Maggie (James) Peltier, Kim and Jeremy Deputee, Gabe, Lillian, Aramis and Ben Cloud, Jr., Emma (Dalbert) Begay, Cameron, Sandy Filesteel, Dalaney (Bryndon) Rogers, Tyana and Tressa Ten Bear, Tawny and Coe Cash (Carmel) Half, Kaneisha, Jamual and Ezra Bird; his great-grandchildren Leviah, Albert Jr., Sae’lee, James and Alice, William and Marissa, Abbey, Mister, Adrien, D’Anthony, Christian, Shawnee, Keysius, Dezmond, Ambrielle and Diondre, Angelina, Adrianna, Aris, Jazmine, Jordan, Haley and Alexis, Odie, Dalray, Mitchrena and Dain; his brothers Kenneth (Hannah), Norman, Brewster (Veronica), Randy and Henry (Anda) Pretty On Top and Arly Stops; his sister Elizabeth Pretty On Top; his uncles John (Mercy) Pretty On Top and Vincent White Hip, his aunt Deanna Milda; special nieces and nephews Carey and Rachel Whitemanrunshim, Remi (Jasper) Half, Lesley (Ervin) Birdinground, Sherri (Tim) Bird Hat, Barry (Adree) Whitemanrunshim, Geri Stewart, Jaime Thomas, Vandy (Allison) Boyer and Shana (Tylynn) Ten Bear. Extended family includes Pretty On Top, Bear Crane, Back Bone, Stops at Pretty Places, Bull Horse and Not Afraid.
