Mrs. Eliza Strouss Died Early This Morning

Mrs. Eliza C. Strouss, one of the old and highly respected residents of this city, died at 2 o'clock this morning at her home in this city at 206 South Ninth street, after an illness of several weeks. She was 76 years old the 8th of last August and up to the time of her recent illness was a very active woman for her age.
She came to this county with her husband and family in 1884 and located in Elk City, where her husband died in 1897. In 1906, she came to Independence where she has since resided.
She is survived by one son, one daughter, three brothers and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her son, James Arthur of Joplin, Mo., and her daughter, Mrs. Anna Irish of Elk City were at her bedside when the final summons came.
The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Methodist church at Elk City, the services being in charge of Rev. D. W. Hussong of this city, former pastor of the Elk City church. There will be a short prayer service at the late home of the deceased at 12:30 o'clock tomorrow before the funeral party leaves for Elk City. Burial will be in the Elk City cemetery beside her husband.
Mrs. Strouss had many friends in this city and county who highly esteem her for her strength of character and courage in meeting the problems of life.
